pluralism of a garden party
This playfully entitles a set of seven sober discussions which go my own way, implicitly anticipating upcoming work to be done and shared.

spring 2026
I’ve been immersed in supporting the campaign of Xavier Becerra for Governor of California; working with lots of new project note; and sorry I’m not ready to put new discussion online. But soon!—by next Saturday, I expect. I’m working many hours per day to not have my update date be a disappointment, while keeping fidelity to what I want to do.

a conceptual spirit constellating consilience
preface to more-conceptual venturing:
• a conceptual spirit of telos
• for constellating interdomainal thought
• evincing telic consilience from appellant cohering
—not yet the interdomainal flourishing anticipated last week,
but I’m getting there, maybe later than sooner because my desire
to work more conceptually is presently more appealing.

endearing fabulations
Heightening a conception of “Literary” living seems at best these days to dissolve into prospecting comparative thought calling from appellant horizons.

light houses
“What, after all, is the function of great literature if not to enhance
the human endeavor and raise its potential beyond what is otherwise conceivable? As Toni Morrison said in her acceptance speech at the Nobel Prize banquet, literary artists mine the resources of language
to produce ‘illuminations none of us has dreamed of’.”

i am text you bring to life
I doubt you care much that “Literature” may be better understood as glyphical narrative appealing for invocation yet.
No worries, just cohering.

winter 2026
I have updates on literary-conceptual work, but I want a couple of days to add at the same time more than I have today. Coming.
The death of Jürgen Habermas last weekend caused me to do some updating of my Facebook/Habermas page. Also, I spent too much time defending Habermas at a couple of Heidegger discussion pages, which seems to have been a waste of time. One venture became a blog posting: “response to ambivalent praise for Habermas.”

more away into high textual craft
Three more sections of a manifold exploration of “literary” dramactionality today: “being literary,” “the humanistic origin of literary texting,” and “the usual ‘“Literature’.”
My venturing will have many sections, later to be listed as a single set of cohering discussions.

a way into literary venturing
As if implicit dramaticness of daily life is as textual as real interaction can be like reading each other’s situational authorships.
Saturday, January 17, 2026
authorship of authoriality
Self-differentiation through writing as speech;
self-withholding in writing for an audience through an appropriate degree of candor, etc.;
receptiveness as “reading” another person;
writing the author of a silent text: Is it perceiving, creating, projecting?
Is the inferred author (the authorship) some weird mirror of one’s capability, preference, self-begetting?—
All of that is happening in non-“literary” life.

gardening aspiration
“Of philological gardening” recalls themes from autumn postings
(after a hermetic preface) as practical rationale for aspirational venturing through winter’s want of spring.

winter aspiring
My intent to write about aspiration led me into wanting to be clearer to myself about what I’m ultimately doing with all my projects: how does it all cohere purposefully?
I’ve gained satisfactory conceptions of It All. But its density of articulation, its semantic compression, wouldn’t make sense without extensive explication.

autumn 2025
Good-bye autumn.
I expected to share new discussions before today, but my path got more bushy than I anticipated. The clearing can be seen, but I’m not there yet. Wilderness, you know.
Really: My prospecting goes where it feels good to go, which gets very complicated. But what’s apt to share online should be easily accessible. That challenge is another world.
And my optimism about sharing more soon tends to delude itself about “soon.”
Sorry (and not), but (and because) the clearing is seen, which looks to be fun.
Welcome, winter!

appreciating what matters
Several recent discussions have been combined as a single project,
“a better appreciability“ (i.e., ability to appreciate), including a new discussion today, the last one of the array: “high appreciability.”
Friday, October 17, 2025
appreciation implies astute valuing
Someone or something may be appreciated to have value or
be given value.
giftedness of Time
Time’s gift is a miracle of nature, from one’s eonically given genome, granting gifted mentability, to concertable cultivation of a healthy child’s individuation of promising futurity, its futurity and giving time to its generation’s futurity.
Every individuated action can be given to feel, want, understand, and belong in flourishing times.
One is gifted by the given presence of a person by finding integrity and singularity in their being, giving aptness to their ways.

summer 2025
I’m enthused about upcoming points in my conceptual story.
But do I lose credibility by calling a discursive venture a story?
Narrativity is an elastic thing, like phenomenality, or “Literary” sensibility.
But I don’t have more update for today. But there’s more Attitude coming soon.
Sept. 5
I’ve combined four recent projects (late August through today) under a single title, as four parts of a single project, “a person-al humanity,” which was my intent at the beginning (early August). That exemplifies my ongoing plan now to do short pieces which are later combined under a single title after the pieces are done.

iso-belonging across modes of life
Finding isomorphic relations is fascinating. The eight short parts of “iso-belonging” prospect my interest in isomorphic thinking relative to aspects of belonging, from a horizon of “a pragmatic sense of life” (previous note here) to conceptual modeling of action.

fun with conceptual venturing
Two discussions, on a pragmatic sense of life and belonging, continue my ventures into ways of which We are “human,” prospecting part of a holism of differential scales of being, from inner psychality to political life.

doing philosophy as close reading
This is a very close reading of a Heideggerian scholar’s essay on why he regards Heidegger as “mystical,” which is invalid (in my view), but admirably discussed by him. (The author, Richard Capobianco, is an acquaintance.)
My reading may seem tedious at times, but his essay is available by link (and PDF download) at the top of my discussion, for following along.

person-al being
Today offers a set of sprouts (brief topics) about ways of which We are “human” and beyond, following July’s first sprout: short “personity.”
My discussion may seem technical, or even tedious, instead of engaging. Sorry. It provides a sense of being which is beyond mystifications by scholars who secretly wish to do theology in a new key: exalted “Being” as some great mystery beyond us.
No. Science, humaniies, and conceptual arts are sufficient windows into Our evolving.

a note on thinking
span style="color: #0e0b6b;">
You, too, can be modeled as an A.I. neo-animal
When Heidegger gave his lecture course on thinking, 1951, he was far beyond Analytical philosophy's implicit anticipation of A.I.
This discussion offers a short philosophical appreciation of Heidegger’s analysis of existence as prescient philosophy of action. It would probably only interest an elderly academic philosopher.

sunday school
A scholar of philosophy, passing his 65th birthday, muses at an online forum about his recent hopes for that forum, his future plans, and expresses a sense of aging: “It is both funny and a bit scary that you are now older than most people you meet.”
When younger, I always expected to find new perspectives (on a given topic) beyond mine, enlightening and inspiring me, because others had been on that important road longer. I’m no leading light in the cosmos.

spring 2025
summer, whatever…I’m easily distracted from my path (building after the blueprint, protocols) by appeals of newly anticipated prospects
for conceptual cohering. A radiant horizon isn’t good for staying in one locale, you know—though I’ve lived in Berkeley over 45 years.
Getting sidetracked by fascinations may not be optimal for reaching
a given goal, but the eventual reach may be better for it.
June 17
I’ve begun implementing my long-developed path, completed a week ago (after more than a year of themic design).
But I need a few more days for having a substantial beginning to share online.

prospecting generative consilience
On the one hand, I want to give in to creative writing, my specific humanity (so to speak): novel “molecular texting.”
On the other hand, I want writing to be relative to vital contemporary issues, our general humanity (so to speak): novel “gardening better humanity”.
Yet, writing to public issues is an externalist kind of molecular texting. Writing with personal license is an internalist kind of bettering humanity (my own, though).
Be it creative play or appealing to general urgency, expressing specific or addressing general humanity, appealing futures draw both.

molecular texting
I’m so many textual elements for constellating.
What compounds can I craft?
But whether or not a presence is “Art” isn’t for me to judge.
I want to make the best of cohering.
A singularity of sensibility exemplifies itself best by not posturing
as exemplary.
So goes fidelity to ownmost going on.
Yet, I do enjoy the idea of being influential. But I have no interest in being an “Influencer,” just being compounds I can craft, what free standing combine I’m to display.
gardening better humanity
So much can be said about thinking relative to a lived continuum of value domains. Here’s a letter emailed yesterday to an esteemed professor of political theory, then some added comment.

Heidegger was not a "mystical" philosopher
Common practice by Heidegger scholars mystifies what he was doing. But his calling is kindred with asking: What is the meaning (the significance, the meaningfulness) of being alive? That can be quite a mystery. But it’s resolvable, person by person, without supernaturalism.
Of course, questions of meaningfulness can scale to any horizon of interest, though beginning immanently was Heidegger's idea.

after Arrival
After enlightenment which feels awesome, teaching faces audiences (students, readers, collleagues) who might care little about the enthusiasm. But if you happen to want to venture highly, what’s it like to be on a good path? This short discussion isn’t the answer. But the bridgework for teaching is interesting to entertain.

for philosophically countering Bozo politics
Seventy years after Heidegger pursued his post-Holocaust, post-Hiroshima “question concerning technology,” the U.S. now has a Bozo administration welcoming intimations of techn-fascism.
I have the answer!—at X (screen shot there). I would argue that the humanities (U. of Penn. project) make genuine democracy possible, though I see conceptual modeling differently than the U. of Penn. project.
Sunday, March 16, 2025
“’Morality is for suckers,’ Trump might say.”
My extended cynicism against Bozo turns into bibliophilic hope for “moral” philosophy in conceptions of educational excellence—though being “moral,” to me, is just ethical pragmatism treated as statutory normativity.
My discussion leads into a sequenced sense of moral conceptuality which can credibly ground a post-naturalistic sense of evolutionary ethics.

Heidegger receding into the distance
Giving attention to Heideggerian themes feels regressive for me these days, but Heideggerians turn up in my online life: A Facebook group of serious students and scholars of Heidegger was pushed my way by Facebook; a new academic encyclopedia page on Heidegger irks me.
But also, I’ve wanted to provide an overview of what I’m doing altogether relative to long Heideggerian influence (like being more attracted to doing autobiography as one ages).

for intimacy of time being
Heidegger’s sense of there being phenomenal implicature here (or any text) and there (any reader) sought to engage “us” in a venture of originary promise in thinking together (there linking at the end to here).
My discussion there highlights a concept of “It” which isn’t addressed. So, in light or that, you might wonder what “is” “It”?

on a way to original thinking
This shares my sense of Heidegger’s pragmatic originality. It begins
a little provocatively, then sketches a simple view which may seem superficial, but becomes conceptually holistic in an historical sense.
Inasmuch as he's my philosophical father, this discussion is why
I outgrew a loved home and departed for new ways.

Immersion in music playing itself, you: lost in a film showing itself,
or wholly lost to dancing—we play: playing flow flowing reverie horizoning—joy!
“Beyond words.”
So: inwordness tropes.
Yet, we’re also a window in saying how awing flight of time’s appellant cohering—release into “regioning of that which regions” (Heidegger), like the cosmos self-constellating—gives way, drawing oneSelf away into being time, freely awing, things thinging, points pointing like votexual distance emerging into nearing you, coming to you as you’re going there.
It’s a mirrorplay: bearing emerges from granting, yet given appealing enacts one’s granting.

some advice about inquiring and creative life
Don’t be afraid to show your own understanding to others who seem
to be beyond you. If their opinion is worthwhile, then they’re not condescending. They won’t cause your anxiety to be validated.
Learning never ends for everyone who appreciates their own path.
The integrity of your venture belongs to you, not recognition by others.
And prudent trusting of the other is always worthwhile as one’s default presumption. If trust is betrayed, move on, but prudently trust again.

integrity of oneSself as neologist
Flourishing of oneSself is, at best, a balance of [a] open receptiveness and apt responsiveness of oneself with others (genuine living of s/p differentiality) with [b] the same of oneself with Selfality (authentic living of S/s differentiality).
Authenticity and genuineness of flourishing lifepsychalness belong together in the same hopefully exemplary lifecycleness.
So goes my integrity of neologisms. integrity of heartful reverie.

being person-al: beyond what They say
My discussion of person-ness here follows from the second part of “It’s phenomenal” (April 22) about living experience. Its repeat of earlier themes is in a circumspective context of others’ standard views on being a person which will be analyzed later.

It’s phenomenal
A large-scale project begins today with a set of three discussions under the title “It’s phenomenal,” which isn’t a self-promotional title, rather a denotation of its overall topic. winter 2024
No update apart from what I noted today at gedavis.com.
Mar. 2
The posting on Derrida has no obvious relation to recent obsessions about better humanity, but it’s all part of the same Project: humanism, humanities, conceptual literary interest, interest in textuality, though that series is a stretch—abstract. Yet, a reader wants enhancement of their sensibility through arts, and arts are commonly matters of our humanity.
I’ll have better updates soon.

postcard from the conceptual resort
I’m with Jacques Derrida in fascination with our possible presence together here, i.e., through textuality, which is from me to an invented other, but also somewhat (inevitably) inventing the actual other in conscientious address. And the other—anonymous reader, loved one—somewhat invents the author.

appeal of better ways
A discussion I put online earlier this month, titled “To shape a better understanding to share, where should we begin?,” immediately dissatisfied me. So, I reconceived the thing, now posted as two discussions:
- “orienting life in relation with futuring humanity,” a couple of days ago. See the playfully titled “deep time...” posting below here, Jan. 24.
- today’s “appeal of better ways.” It constellates an array of themes for more specific attentions later. It’s a good synopsis of what I’m generally doing for my “project of humanity.”
Wednesday, January 24, 2024
deep time of appellant horizons might show enthralling gravity
“Orienting life in relation with futuring humanity” is inspired by how education undermines consumerism, undermines the appeal of authoritarian stances, and welcomes appreciation of manifold mindfulness.
Also, my discussion introduces a scalar sense of holism which is generally important for “The Project currently.”

coming to terms
Desire for new concepts—which I’ve not hesitated to satisfy—follows from working beyond the normal uses of standard concepts. That’s common in philosophical work, but easily seems hermetic.
The past couple of weeks offline have been very fruitful, in terms of more new concepts and advancing earlier themes. I love my days!

being figurative is normal, for good reason
“Meaning of significance: part 1” begins a venture about there being texted presence between author and reader which is usually figurative (showing implicature) manifoldly. A speaker/writer is figurative be-
cause being understood is normally wanted more than expressiveness.

precious life
Beyond polemic about “precious life” (sentient human life), I want to be specific (soon) about entailed fidelity to precious values associable with fair chances for thriving and individuational flourishing through curiosity, engagement, belonging, appreciation, aspiration, and much more that good parenting and teaching provide, which altogether draws a life into precious purposes, having life-long appeal. True community promotes, ensures, and advances precious reasons to live.

heading toward a star
Better lives design their futures relative to appealing ways of under-
standing, in light of which pasts are given significant meaning.
So, I’ve named my long listing of diary-ish, personal postings of recent years “designing and remembrance,” not that there’s direct focus on the above theme. See the “preface” there.

appealing ways of understanding
My cyclic Project is at least that, maybe (to conceptually minded persons). I want to avoid vanity.
The topics of cycle 4 which seem most appealing to me for develop-
ment of cycle 5 are listed together under fewer, simpler headers here. The “preface” explains it all.

summer 2023
A narrative path over many years is a kind of extended care for being, though sometimes seeming more like alien distance of a mind possessed by its textuality—an odd cohering of ordinary life indeed: such conceptual prospecting of belonging in mystery.

mystery belonging in artistic mirrorplay

building from a ground shared,
not made foundational
My conceptual venturing has prevailing interest in usefulness rather than showing expert fidelity to academic topics (which I can do; being practical eludes many scholars).
So, giving time to narrative about ordinary life expresses shared ground (maybe oddly so, for my part) prior to venturing which is very different (but to be shared), which isn’t abandoning (let alone devaluing) ordinary life by pursuing specialist topics, because returning to practicality is always my aim.
Sunday, August 20, 2023
proximal cohering of ordinary life
The Aug. 17 “…sense of passing days…” below has been combined with six new topics as the three part “proximal cohering…,” whose third part (the six new topics: “personified psychal cohering”) is somewhat ambitious (quasi-phenomenological).

an extraterrestrial sense of passing days
as human
“Proximality and everydayness,” then “acting in ordinary attitude” begin the short project on value conceptuality.
So, the “Project currently” will emerge in terms of its parts, not at first as main headers: discursive parts of small multi-part projects which gradually become a 2- or 3-level table of contents for the Cycle 5 project.
