where are we?
To have been “sidetracked by new ideas” (Aug. 7 below, “summer 2026”) was not about leaving a central path for exploring marginal woods. Rather, the departure was away from intended presentation here (August 1: “I’ve completed my prospective archetexture for the upcoming year-or-more…”) back to conceptual prospecting which fundamentally appeals to me—and ultimately coheres—though that’s
not obvious.
By analogy, consider prospecting something ultimately appealing as
a highland of Inner Humanity which each of us unwittingly expresses; and a lowland of Outer Humanity which is easily shared, from near-and-dear lives (extended family, friends, neighbors, etc.) to news cycles feeding Our shared sense of The Times.
I live an ambitiously pragmatic midland.
Writing life which cares for both highland and lowland can be analogously in a midland condition, Janus-faced, between being authenticity drawn into heights and being genuinely drawn into sharing.
A health care specialist (which I’ve been) may be drawn to research and drawn to the calling of Doctors Without Borders (to which I contribute monthly).
A philosopher (which I am) may be drawn to wilds of conceptual prospecting and usefulness.
So, a conception of pragmatic thinking (a house of being) may be
made home.
But resorting to a highland can cause a backlog of undone chores and unread archive of recent articles and news. I’ve enriched the arche-
texture, but now feel a mild sense of disorientation, like artists may confess after finishing something.
So, now where?
